About Laura Brown
Before I knew there was a word for it, I have been fighting unfair institutions and practices to call them to account, and to be courageous. My career as a clinical and forensic intersectional feminist psychologist has given me the opportunities to see the worst of what can happen to people when Institutional Betrayal is a guiding factor, and the profound healing power of Institutional Courage. So I'm pleased to have this opportunity to join the Board of Courage as its new Treasurer. Before retiring from clinical practice, I ran a small business single-handedly for 45 years, and for 9 of those years created and ran a not-for-profit clinic that trained doctoral students in psychology while serving very low-income people. I'm excited to be able to bring those skills and that experience to this new role, and to become a more active part of this organization. When I'm not writing books and teaching classes on feminist therapy for students in China, I travel the world, seeking Jewish heritage sites, and coral reefs, my two passions. I have been fortunate to live in Seattle since 1976, and to be part of thriving progressive communities here.
